Welcome to Southern Arizona Ghost Towns
If you enjoy hiking and Southern Arizona history, then hiking the ghost towns in this region of the Sonoran Desert will be a source of satisfaction. The remnants of these ghost towns are disappearing fast. The human factor and nature are taking their toll. While the breath of the living has left these towns, their history forever remains. My favorite ghost town is Charleston. Not only because of the large number of adobes, but also because of the wonderful neighboring petroglyphs.
Many of the places incorporated in this website include driving directions with Sierra Vista, Arizona as the starting point. Much of the historical information came from authors such as Fulton and Sherman, other information from long time residents. My intent is to publish other sites I have visited and photographed. Take heart, the pages I have published do include photos. So kick back... click on Southern Arizona Treasures, and pick a place to tour. You can do all this from your armchair!
Note: Unless otherwise noted, the photographs on these pages are the property of the author, many dating back to 1989. Keep in mind that it is unlawful to remove anything from these sites, so if you want to take home a piece of history, be sure to take your camera.
